More Sanding Off the Truth by Senator Michele Bachmann

This is a piece going out to 6th District Delegates touting Michele Bachmann's fiscal conservative credentials. Michele sands off the truth.

"Bachmann's Taxpayers League voting record, 2000-2004 of 96% outperforms Knoblach's 77% and Krinkie's 95%".

The problem is this isn't accurate. First of all, Bachmann has no legislative record in 2000, since she wasn't elected until November 2000. Krinkie has a 100% taxpayer league voting record (without including "bonus points" from pledge signing, and keeping pledges) from 2001-2004. If you include 2000, Krinkie's overall Taxpayer League score is 98.6. Krinkie has voted against the Taxpayer League position in a vote to accept a compromise tax proposal in 2000.

What's interesting here is that somehow Bachmann neglected to mention 2005. In 2005, she got a 77% rating by the Taxpayer's league. (What's interesting about 2005, is Bachmann got docked 5 points for breaking her pledge, while Knoblach got docked 10 points for breaking the pledge.) Bachmann's cummulative 2001-2005 average is 92. This average does not reflect bonus points offered by the Taxpayer League for pledge signing or deductions for pledge breaking.

You can review the Taxpayer League scorecards for yourself:

If you look at these scorecards there are a number of votes they use that have no connection with the Taxpayer League mission. An example is they rated a Pledge of Allegiance bill. That has nothing to do with taxes and I'm not sure why they rated that bill.
