Scott Dibble vs Michele Bachmann on MPR Comments

Commenters think Scott Dibble did a good job. Andy from Eleventh Avenue South summarized the debate on his blog.

I hope Senator Scott Dibble asks Bachmann how her contituents feel about her using all her Senate time to grandstand on the gay marriage issue. Are they happy to be paying their taxes so Bachmann can have free publicity for her Congressional campaign? I know this contituent isn't.

S. Bachman said on Midday today, something to the effect, "you know, Gary, it is against the law to talk about this in Canada. We couldn't even have this radio program there." She was referring to C-250 which simply prohibits speech that incites violance against certain groups, and now those groups include gays.

How are her comments any different than Dean Johnson's (no, I think he is an idiot for saying what he did). It is a deliberate mistatement and she knows it.

I enjoy the hysteria about children being taught that gay is okay.

I read a lot when I was younger, and in in junior high, I got through 'Helter Skelter' and 'Gone with the Wind'. At no time did it occur to me that cult murder or slavery were good ideas.

I learned about gay people from Sebastian Cabot on 'Family Affair'.

Sen. Dibble did a great job. Bachmann sounded like a broken record.

I agree Senator Scott did well, and I sent him a short note to let him know.

Saint Bachmann can only offer her tired liturgies of fear and doom, and they don't hold up.

Dibble took care of Bachmann. But she never lets facts get in the way of her sound bytes.

I give SD a lot of credit for going on the air with her. When I was a reporter, I interviewed him once and we had to walk past all the Bachmann followers with their signs basically damning gay people to hell.

He's a much cooler customer than I would be if someone was leading a hateful movement against my lifestyle.

MPR promotes the show:

Supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage want the full state Senate to vote on the measure so it can be placed on the ballot this November.

Michele Bachmann: Republican state senator from Stillwater, who supports a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in Minnesota.

Scott Dibble: DFL state senator from Minneapolis, who opposes amending Minnesota's Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

You can listen to the show here.

I stopped by the Outfront rally before work today. The capitol was packed with supporters. There are a number of churches opposed to this amendment.
