Esme Murphy Asks for Feedback about her Interview with Michele Bachmann

WCCO:

Did I Wimp Out On My Bachmann Interview?
I am getting hammered with comments that I let Rep. Michele Bachmann off the hook when I questioned her about her comments on MSNBC’S Hardball that Barack Obama has "anti-american views."

This one from SK:

Esme, you let Michelle [sic] Bachmann off the hook. Why didn't you play the video of her Chris Matthews interview during your recent interview with her. This is what Michelle said when asked by Matthews whether she believes that Obama may have anti-American views. She replied, "Absolutely. I'm very concerned that he may have anti-American views." She also told Matthews that the national media should scrutinize all members of Congress about whether they hold "anti-American views." Media people like you need to ask the hard questions and not let somebody have air time to change the facts. In fact, I don't think she answered any of your questions. I am disappointed."

Sorry S.K... I do regret not pressing her on the issue, but I did want to move on to asking her about her request for a pardon for Petters’ colleague Frank Vennes.

I'd encourage people to comment. I think Murphy could have played the tape of what Bachmann said, then asked her to explain that. It's all on tape, despite Bachmann's effort to rewrite history.

I was pleased to see you address the mysterious Bachmann-Vennes connection. But there is more to it than just the pardon letter. Vennes and his wife are among Bachmann's top individual campaign contributors--$27,400 since 2005. Vennes' brother and his wife, and Vennes' personal attorney, also have contributed thousands to Bachmann. Read more at www.minnesotaindependent.com. One follow-up question I would have liked to have heard is: If Vennes has not been charged with a crime, why did you throw your friend under the bus already? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? But thanks for covering this angle.

As for the other part of the interview, you got Bachmann on tape lying--again. And that was worth the interview itself. Nobody's buying her line about being "misconstrued" anyway. They've all seen the original tape and know she's lying. Perhaps having a transcript of the Matthews interview in hand would have made it easier to show her in black and white on the spot that she's lying. It was all too predictable that she would make this b.s. claim. We've seen it too many times before.
