Michele Bachmann Becoming Political Poison for Republicans

The Steve Sarvi is running against Michele Bachmann rather than John Kline.

Michele Bachmann's Mentor -- John Kline

People across the country have expressed outrage at Michele Bachmann’s suggestion that some Democratic members of Congress are “anti-American.” Former Republican Secretary of State Colin Powell called her comments “nonsense,” and her Primary opponent said she had dishonored her office and reentered the race as a write-in candidate. Republicans, Democrats, journalists, everyone has spoken out – everyone except John Kline.

During the KSTP-League of Women Voters debate that aired last night, viewers saw me ask Rep. Kline if he would denounce Michele Bachmann’s outrageous comments. Since he and Ms. Bachmann have nearly identical voting records and some say he is her mentor, I thought we should know: Does he agree that some Democratic members of Congress are “anti-American” and should be investigated? Does he believe the millions of people who have voted for these public servants also are “anti-American”?

We don’t know because Mr. Kline didn’t answer the question. Instead, as he has on many issues – from the economy to his votes against veterans – he tried to change the subject.

Don’t let him get away with it!

I’ll be talking about this and other issues tomorrow on “The Rising Tide” on AM 950. Call (952) 946-6205 and ask questions during the taping tomorrow between 11 and 11:30 am. The show will air Sunday at noon.

People like me, who have fought for our country in the military, have done so to protect Americans’ rights to express their views. This includes even outrageous and offensive views like Ms. Bachmann’s. But we shouldn’t condone it.

We need leaders in Washington who will work to unite us, not divide us. Since John Kline won’t speak out against this kind of hateful and dangerous rhetoric, then it is time to elect someone who will. Please help me beat John Kline by making a donation today! Every bit helps: $30, $60 or $100 will help me let voters in the 2nd Congressional District know Kline is standing with Michele Bachmann.

Please donate today! And call me on AM 950 tomorrow at 11 am. The number is (952) 946-6205.

Talk to you then,

Steve Sarvi

Many republicans are not happy with the latest turn of events. Michele Bachmann's self-inflicted wounds mean the State GOP has to either divert resources to defend Michele Bachmann's seat, or let her twist on the vine, and work to save their other seats. Strategically I'd advise them to let her twist on the vine. Ron Carey, state party chair, put most party resources into Bachmann's campaign two years ago. I anticipate that he will do the same this year.
