Should State/County Workers Be Present at Michele Bachmann's Self-Serving Political Events

Minn Post:

Announcing the forums, she says that Minnesotans are "worried about the economy, the seemingly futile policies being enacted by our government to combat it, and the future of our nation."

She invites her constituents to the forums "to discuss new policies and opportunities for job growth as our economy struggles to regain its momentum.”

While that might sound more like a political rally than a job forum, she says that county and state employment specialists have been invited to be on-site to provide individual assistance and advice for those hiring and those seeking employment.

Monday's forums are:

* St. Cloud: 10 to 11:30 a.m., Holiday Inn, intersection of Highway 15 & Highway 23
* Monticello: 1 to 2:30 p.m., Monticello Community Center
* Blaine: 4 to 5:30 p.m., Brook Hall/Blainebrook, 12000 Central Avenue NE, Blaine
* Hugo: 7 to 8:30 p.m., Hugo American Legion, 5383 140th Street North, Hugo

A commenter notes:

Bill Coleman says:
If these overtly political events, is it appropriate for state workers to be there in support of Bachman?

In Bachmann's world, there would not be a Workforce Center. In her world, what role does government have in any individual's job search or even in directing the economy?

Tarryl Clark's Press Release on Michele Bachmann's Upcoming California Tea-Bagger Speaking Tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Andrea Mokros

May 3, 2010

The Bachmann Agenda: Bachmann "rocks" California, but represents who?!

Michele Bachmann is grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons again, this time with the announcement that she will make yet another campaign tour of California next week. Details can be found at www.MicheleBachmannRocksCA.com or at www.teapartypalmsprings.com.

Tarryl Clark's campaign spokesperson, Andrea Mokros, issued the following statement:

"Congresswoman Bachmann is once again taking her personal agenda on the road, making yet another trip to the West Coast - this time for a Tea Party-backed tour dubbed 'Bachmann Rocks CA.' It begs the question, since she's so rarely seen in her own district: who does Michele Bachmann think she represents? Instead of pursuing rock star status at fundraisers and tea party rallies around the country, she should be pursuing results for the 6th District - a district with the state's highest unemployment and foreclosure rates. Yet by her own admission, she's failed to pass any substantive legislation in nearly four years. California can keep Michele Bachmann and her failed leadership. The 6th District deserves a leader with a record of results, and that's Tarryl Clark."

Michele Bachmann plans West Coast speaking swing

By Joe Kimball | Published Mon, May 3 2010 11:55 am

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann continues to broaden her national exposure this month with appearances in Southern California to discuss "How to Take Back America."

On May 14, she'll speak at a luncheon in Irvine, Calif., followed by an evening reception in San Diego and an afternoon reception May 15 at a private home near Palm Springs.

There's mention of a fourth appearance, but it isn't listed yet on the online registration page.

Some commenters here have noted that it's perhaps better that Michele Bachmann misses many committee votes, and votes on the floor. When she is present, she doesn't contribute to the debate in any positive way.

Bachmann Lied to Get More Offshore Oil Drilling

Nick Coleman back in 2008:

The Chinese are drilling for oil off the coast of Cuba -- just 45 miles from Florida -- and I don't like it. Neither does Rep. Michele Bachmann, Vice President Dick Cheney, Sen. John McCain and other righteous Americans who are so ticked off about the China connection that we can't see straight.

Or think straight, either.

Do you want to know the problem with the Chinese taking offshore oil from Cuba while American oil drillers sit on their hands because pansy global warming freaks won't let us punch more holes in the ocean and we pony up $4 a gallon to fill the family Hummer?

The problem is it isn't true.

To see how deeply we are addicted to oil, check out the election-year pandering of the politicians promising to restore our God-given right to cheap gas by making sure the Chinese don't buy Cuba's.

What a pathetic country we have become. It's like watching a drunk search through his pockets for enough nickels and dimes to buy one more quart of Ripple. Only, we're the drunk.
